Cooperative Education Project
The Hamilton Conservation Commission, noting that the Conservation Commission Act directs them to "promote the preservation of natural resources", and believing that environmental education, particularly of the young, is the most important way people's attention can be drawn to what needs to be preserved, joins with the Wenham Conservation Commission, the Massachusetts Audubon Society, and private donors to sponsor a program of environmental education in the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District.
The program involves students from elementary to high school levels in field trips, wildlife sanctuary visits, and environmental conferences in conjunction with classroom instruction in their school science classes. Massachusetts Audubon Society Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary naturalists and nature educators have worked with Regional teachers to develop the curriculum.
The Commission hopes to be able to continue the program for many more years. The reviews from the kids have been great (thanks for all the wonderful notes and drawings sent to the Commission).
